Experience the history of England through design. Imagine yourself in the heavy silk gowns of Georgian-era Bath. Step into the swirling floral Arts and Crafts world of William Morris. Get lost in the bustling atmosphere of London, where hidden treasures lie around every corner.

Embark on an adventure to explore neighborhoods, soak up inspiration at museums, and experience design and textiles in England. Together we will learn, create, and share an unforgettable experience.

The Grand British Textile Tour is an 8-night adventure.
Part One takes us into the countryside where we will explore Bath and the Cotswolds. In Part Two we spend four days discovering London.

Part One – Bath & the Cotswolds

An amazing trip filled with wonderful experiences! Fashion, textiles, and history– my favorite subjects! How would I rate this trip? Priceless! Amy Barickman, founder of Indygo Junction and author of Vintage Notions: An Inspirational Guide to Needlework, Cooking, Sewing, Fashion & Fun.

Upon arrival in England we will make our way through the glorious English countryside to Bath, stopping along the way for a tour of the Whitchurch Silk Mill. The Abbey Hotel will be our home in Bath as we tour the city, with a special stop at the Fashion Museum.

After two days in Bath we journey to the Cotswolds where gorgeous gardens, a Tudor castle and the world of William Morris await us. After our countryside excursions, we will return to the White Hart Royal Hotel, a historic coaching inn first opened in the 1600s.

Part Two – London

The Grand Textile Tour completely lived up to it’s name and I had an amazing time! It is a sheer pleasure to have tour guides who are knowledgeable and as excited about the tour as i was! They took us places we didn’t even know we wanted to go, and it was unforgettable!

After the quiet of the Cotswolds, it is time to immerse ourselves in the swirling cacophony of London. One of the most exciting cities in the world, it is a heady mix of the ultra-modern present and mystical past. Down its crooked streets lay a warren of tiny shops, delicious restaurants and delightful surprises.

During our four days in London we will visit its great museums, enjoy afternoon tea, create with local artisans, visit markets and fall in love with this great city. And, we will introduce you to our favorite must-see secret spots – fabulous experiences not found in the usual tourist guides.

Day 1 – Friday, June 14 (Departure)

Get your passports ready, it’s departure day! Kansas City to London is the departure route for the tour; however, airfare can be arranged from any U.S. city to London. Full details on the airline schedule will be forthcoming.

Day 2 – Saturday, June 15

Welcome to England! On our arrival, we will board our private mini-coach that will meet us at London Heathrow Airport and transport us to the lovely Georgian city of Bath.

On the way, we stop for a tour of the Whitchurch Silk Mill in Hampshire, where you will see an original mill wheel, Victorian-era machinery, fabulous silk fabric on the looms, and a delightful shop filled with silk products from the Mill. Whitchurch also boasts a peaceful setting by the River Test and will provide us with a lovely lunch.

By early afternoon, we arrive in beautiful Bath, founded by the Romans and renowned as a fashionable destination during the Regency period. The City of Bath is a World Heritage Site filled with exquisite Georgian architecture, the famous Roman Baths Museum and an acclaimed Fashion Museum.

We will be resting our head for two nights at The Abbey Hotel, a charming, independently-owned hotel located directly in the city center. The Abbey Hotel is in a listed building, artfully combining modern style with its historic character. Amenities include a wonderful on-site restaurant with seating inside or outside on the terrace; a comfortable bar with comfy chatting spaces; eclectic superior level ensuite rooms; complimentary WiFi; and a friendly staff ready to make your stay in Bath memorable.

After an afternoon enjoying Bath, we will have a delicious Welcome Dinner at the Allium Restaurant at the Abbey. The dinner, along with the full breakfast buffet each morning is included in the trip package.

Day 3 – Sunday, June 16

Following breakfast at the hotel, a local guide will lead us on a leisurely stroll through the historic city center, ending at the magnificent Assembly Rooms, home of the Fashion Museum. Admission to the Fashion Museum is included and after an introduction by our guide, you will have time on your own to discover the museum’s many fashion and accessory exhibits.

Lunch and Afternoon: Time on your own to enjoy this lovely city. Consider taking tea at the famous Pump Room, used as a romantic rendezvous spot in Jane Austen’s novels. In the afternoon we will convene for a unique workshop to make that quintessential English accessory – the fascinator!

Evening: Dinner on your own. There are wonderful restaurants in Bath, everything from fun pubs to stylish eateries highlighting a variety of culinary delights from traditional British to Italian and Indian.

Days 4 – 5 – Monday, June 17 to Tuesday June 18

Following breakfast at the hotel, we depart from Bath in our private mini coach and head to one of the most special places in England – the Cotswolds! Over the next two days we will see quintessential England in lovely villages, rolling green hills, gorgeous manor homes, castles and gardens in their summer flush.

We will stop at the village of Bibury, described by Morris as the “most beautiful village in England”, followed by a tour of William Morris’ summer home at Kelmscott Manor. Probably the most evocative of all houses associated with Morris, Kelmscott Manor contains a fantastic collection of possessions and works of Morris, his family and associates in the Arts and Crafts Movement. We pay homage again to William Morris at the Broadway Tower, a country retreat for Morris and other pre- Raphaelite artists with outstanding views of the surrounding countryside.

We’ll also visit the Real Wood Furniture Company in Chipping Norton who designs pieces inspired by William Morris, as well as lunch and shopping time in the pretty town of Broadway

One afternoon we will visit stately Sudeley Castle, a Tudor masterpiece and former home of Queen Katherine Parr. The grounds contain carefully designed gardens and a chapel containing the Queen’s tomb. There will be time for tea at the Castle’s quaint café.

Whilst in the Cotswolds, we will stay at the award-winning White Hart Royal Hotel in Moreton-in-Marsh. This pleasant market town is home to a number of cute shops, outstanding pubs and this historic coaching inn hotel. The White Hart Royal Hotel was used by King Charles I as shelter during the English Civil War following the Battle of Marston Moor on July 2, 1644. A copy of the King’s unpaid bill is commemorated on a plaque within the entrance lobby.

Amenities at the White Hart include beautifully designed and comfortable superior ensuite rooms; period restaurant with original inglenook fireplace; bountiful breakfasts; complimentary WiFi; and a courtyard terrace for chats and drinks.

Our first night in the Cotswolds will include dinner at the White Hart’s restaurant.

Day 6 – Wednesday, June 19

After breakfast at the White Hart, we’ll journey to England’s legendary capital, London!

The Montague on the Gardens Hotel in Bloomsbury will be our home in London. This 4-star luxury hotel spills over with fashionable design in each individually styled room. Don’t miss having a drink in the chic Leopard Bar or take tea overlooking the gardens. Amenities include delicious English breakfasts each morning; complimentary WiFi; and a fantastic location just steps from the British Museum and not far from the West End Theatre district.

Days 7-9 – Thursday, June 20 to Saturday, June 22

We have scoured the city for amazing experiences for you. Our days in London will be filled with visits to unique design showrooms, fabric shops, markets and museums. There will also be time on your own, so if you have a London dream destination you would like to visit, we can make that happen. London is an ever-changing city, so we don’t want to plan out each and every stop too far in advance, just in case we need to change the itinerary to hit up a must-see new exhibit or store. But, here are a few stops that we will be making:

We’ll visit one of the world’s best art and design museums: the Victoria & Albert, which houses a treasure trove of archaeological finds, art, vintage clothing and textiles. Here we will see a spectacular exhibit honoring one of London’s most famous designers, Mary Quant, who launched a fashion revolution in the height of the Swinging’ 60’s.

  • Liberty of London: Visit the legendary store to see the best designs in the world of fashion and home decoration, as well as Liberty’s amazing fabric department.
  • Savile Row Tour: Get inside the iconic stores on Savile Row and learn what goes into creating a bespoke garment.
  • Saturday Morning at the Market: Browsing the stalls at the famous Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill!
  • Fabric and textile stores: Go on a guided tour of some of London’s best fabric stores.

On Saturday evening we’ll toast our marvelous tour with dinner followed by a private mini-coach evening tour around the city.

Day 10 – Sunday, June 23 (Return)

Alas, all good things must come to an end and we will return to the U.S. from Heathrow Airport either to Kansas City or your home airport.

*Tour itinerary subject to change based on availability of venues and schedules.

Projected Base Tour Cost: $5650 – $6100 per person based on double occupancy.
